October 10, 2023– In a significant development for the city of Bacolod, the government of Bacolod City considered the proposed lease agreement with SM Prime Holdings, Inc., represented by its President, Jeffrey C. Lim. This agreement aims to facilitate the lease and development of the iconic Manokan Country, the Vendors Plaza and Bacolod Youth and Sports (BAYS) Center, among other nearby properties situated on Fr. Ferrero Street, Bacolod City.

The potential private-public partnership has garnered considerable attention, as it holds the promise of transforming key areas of Bacolod, enhancing urban infrastructure, and boosting economic growth.

The proposed lease agreement was the focal point of the public hearing at the Masskara Hall in Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), where key stakeholders converged. Among those in attendance were the Manokan Country stall owners, spokesperson of Brgy. 12 Nolida T. Cordova, as well as representatives from SM Holdings Inc.,consultants. Councilor Al Espino led the committee hearing together with City Councilors Simple Distrito. Al Victor Espino, Israel Salangga, Celia Flor and Jude Thaddeus Sayson.

The revitalization under the proposed agreement has raised both necessary inquiries from stakeholders and hopes for a more vibrant and modernized Manokan experience.

The discussions and details of the agreement are made to be fine-tuned as the collaborative effort between the government of Bacolod City and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. reflects a shared commitment to progress and a promising future for Bacolod.
