December 06, 2022 – The Bacolod City Gender and Development (GAD) Committee held a refresher training on Gender Sensitivity Training at the Bacolod City Government Center, Masskara Hall.
The training was spearheaded by the Committee Chair on Women, Gender and Child Care, Councilor Celia Matea Flor, with the Barangay VAW-Desk Officers as participants of the said training.
“I am very glad that all of you asked for this training to refresh and a reminder to you to handle your fellow women’s concern more sensitively,” Flor said in her message.
Furthermore, the training continues with Dawn Marie Castro as the speaker of the event where she tackled the definition of men and woman, gender and sex.
The activity aims to differentiate sex and gender and their relationship to the roles that women and men portray in the family, community, and society; identify gender bias manifestations and their impact on both sexes; situate gender biases and specific gender issues in the global and local statistics and how these entail individual, organizational, and systemic actions for change; and be equipped with basic gender lens and analysis tools in carrying out the activity.
Castro also prepared a lot of activities where all the barangay VAW-desk officers are involved and are challenged to brainstorm issues and solutions towards violence and inequality against women.
“Inequality in gender is a rampant problem in our country and having this training is very important to remind us all that we need to have a solution to this,” Castro stated.
