Bacolod City, December 8, 2023 – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in collaboration with the City of Bacolod, launched the Creative Industry Summit.

In accordance with the provisions of RA 11904, better known as the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, the event marks a significant step towards positioning Bacolod as a prime destination for the creative industries and to empower artists to enhance their capabilities and broaden their horizons.

Distinguished guests at the launch included Congressman Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez of the 3rd District and the co-principal author of the Creative Industries Development Act, Bacolod LEDIPO Head Dr. Mae Llamas, Consultant Tin Mansinares, Committee Chair on Culture & Councilor Em Ang, representatives from DTI, OIC Provincial Director for Negros Occidental Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal, Arlene Infante of the Association of Negros Producers, Incoming City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea, Frank Carbon of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Dr. Eric Arthur N. Dio, Dean of the University of St. La Salle Graduate School.

The Creative Industry Summit, scheduled from December 9 to 11, will feature a series of complimentary workshops in various creative domains, including Photography, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Live Events, and Souvenir Arts. The culmination of the summit will take place on December 13 at the SMX Convention Center, showcasing the creative output of the participants.

As highlighted by Congressman Kiko Benitez in his speech, “Culture isn’t just a concept; it’s our everyday life, which also needs to be cultivated,” the Creative Industry Summit is poised to become a catalyst for the city’s transformation into a dynamic center for creative expression and innovation.
