May 7, 2024–The Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, led by DRRMO Head Dr. Anna Maria Pornan, organized a Contingency Planning Formulation Workshop for Earthquake today at L’Fisher Hotel Bacolod.
Key figures from various sectors attended, including Ms. Victoria Parreñas from BHA, Ms. Marica Quiro from City Agriculture Office, Ms. Imelda Williams from City Budget Office and representatives from CPDO, DSSD, CEO, BFP, CHO, GSO, PNP, DILG Bacolod, Philippine Army, Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade, BAMC-AERU, Philippine Redcross, Philippine Coastguard and Liga ng mga Barangay.
The aim of the Contingency Plan is to address the impacts of earthquakes and prevent emerging threats through well-coordinated responses. Ma. Aletha Nogra from the Office of Civil Defense presented Basic Concepts in DRRM and Introduction to Contingency Planning.
Presentations on Overview of Earthquake Hazards in Negros Occidental and Earthquake Impact Calculations for Big Ones in Bacolod City were given via zoom. Contingency Planning Factors were discussed by DILG Negros Occidental Dexter Monserate, followed by workshops focusing on hazard identification, anatomy of the hazard, scenario generation, and setting contingency plan goals and objectives led by Ms. Olive Marie Baylon from the DRRMO, Bago City.
Attendees engaged in group discussions, ensuring a comprehensive understanding and active participation. This collective effort aims to equip everyone with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively in case of a seismic event.
The workshop will continue until May 9, 2024, covering additional vital topics to enhance Bacolod City’s preparedness for earthquakes.
