Bacolod City – In a significant move towards fortifying the city’s defense against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Albee Benitez has expressed his unwavering support for the COVID vaccination program led by PBBM the Department of Health (DOH). Today marks the official rollout of the highly anticipated third COVID-19 booster campaign, employing the use of Pfizer bivalent vaccines.
Mayor Benitez’s administration has been a vocal advocate for the health and well-being of Bacolodnons, consistently emphasizing the importance of vaccination as a crucial tool in the fight against the virus. The mayor applauds the commitment of the dedicated healthcare workers who have relentlessly served the community throughout the challenging times brought about by the pandemic.
The DOH Regional Office has allocated a total of 1,608 doses of the bivalent vaccine specifically for Bacolod City. These doses have been generously donated by the Lithuanian government, demonstrating international solidarity in the face of a global health crisis. The vaccines have been promptly distributed to various government and private hospitals across the city, which have commenced the inoculation process for hospital personnel today.
The bivalent COVID-19 vaccines distinguish themselves by incorporating two essential components. The first component corresponds to the original strain of the virus, providing broad protection against COVID-19. The second component is tailored to address the Omicron variant, a highly transmissible strain that has posed new challenges worldwide. By incorporating these two components, the bivalent vaccines offer enhanced protection against COVID-19 caused by both the original strain and the Omicron variant.
First rollout of the bivalent vaccines were given to private and public hospital frontliners and as the vaccination rollout gains momentum, Bacolod City stands united in its resolve to overcome this unprecedented global health crisis and emerge stronger than ever before.
