A special collection every Sunday is scheduled to start after school heads and principals has agreed that their garbage will be hauled by the private contractor IPM-CDC as part of the effort for a total clean-up of the city.
This comes during a meeting between the school principals and city officials and employees from the Department of Public Services (DPS) headed by Engr. Macky Maceda, Spedial Adviser for Solid Waste Management and Engr. Joel Vergara, OIC-ENRO, at the Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, yesterday.
The meeting aimed to find doable solutions regarding the irregular collection of garbage where some schools had even resorted to open burning of plastics based on the evidence presented by the IEC Team of their findings and observations they have conducted recently.
Also presented were schools with best practices in terms of their solid waste management and plastic recycling program.
