President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signs the Negros Island Region (NIR) Act and the Real Property Valuation and Assessment Report (RPVAR) Act in a ceremony at the Ceremonial Hall in Malacañan Palace on June 13, 2024.

Known as Republic Act (R.A.) No. 12000, the measure creates the Provinces of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor Island into one Administrative Region or the ‘Negros Island Region.’ The law is expected to further improve socioeconomic growth throughout the newly established Region for the benefit of the Negrenses. The enactment underscores the provision of a more effective and efficient delivery of services in the Region.

Meanwhile, the RPVAR Act or R.A. No. 12001 is seen as a necessity to enhance the country’s tax collection system aimed towards revenue generation, jobs and investments across the nation. It complements the Administration’s 8-point socioeconomic agenda and emphasizes the need to streamline and enhance the system by means of a uniform real property appraisal compliant with international standard.
