Bacolod City, Philippines – Under the leadership of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” B. Benitez, Bacolod City is taking a significant step towards addressing the growing population of stray cats and dogs by introducing the largest local government-operated animal shelter in the country as part of its Rabies Prevention and Control Program.
The shelter, to be established in Barangay Granada, has a proposed budget of Php 10 million and will feature a modern design, an office, multi-purpose hall, and an open space with secure perimeters.
This initiative aims to provide care and a home for stray, lost, abandoned, and abused cats and dogs, with the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 animals.
With this project, Bacolod not only enhances public health, but also strengthens its commitment to being an animal-friendly city, ensuring the community is safer for both its citizens and animals.
