To expedite the implementation of the water augmentation initiative, Mayor Albee Benitez called a follow-up meeting with key stakeholders, including representatives from BACIWA-Primewater, Councilor Kalaw Puentevella (SP Chairman on Environment), Councilor Vladi Gonzalez, City Administrator Dr. Lucille Gelvolea, City Engineer Loben Ceballos, and Bacolod Housing Head Victoria Parreñas, to discuss and assess the progress of the water augmentation project aimed at alleviating the ongoing water shortage.
The team unanimously agreed to promptly commence tapping Bocal-Bocal Spring. Councilor Vladi Gonzalez mentioned that initial work, including pipe fusion and subsequent pipelaying, is set to begin tomorrow. Once these tasks are completed, the spring is expected to provide 5MLD of water, significantly improving the water situation in Eroreco, Mandalagan, Villa Angela, and Villamonte within the next two months.
The team also deliberated on the utilization of Matab-ang River as an additional water source. Preliminary preparations for this project were discussed, with Matab-ang River expected to contribute an additional 20mld of water.
Mayor Albee Benitez expressed his intention to establish a task force to oversee the successful implementation of these plans. He stressed the significance of providing a reliable and sustainable water supply for the people of Bacolod.
