November 8, 2022 – In preparation of the Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus 2023, the Urban Basic Services Division of the City Mayor’s Office, scheduled a training for the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) at the Bacolod Government Center Masskara Hall.

Spearheaded by Ms. Lora Maria Teresa Clarin, Officer-in-Charge of UBSD, OPT Plus is the annual weighing of all preschoolers 0-59 months old or 5 years below in the community to identify and locate the malnourished children in the barangays, and those indigents will be channeled to different programs offered by the city such as feeding, nutrition and livelihood programs.

Prior to the pandemic, this is a refresher training just to renew the ideas in assessing the barangay nutrition situation with regards to knowledge on proper data monitoring scheduling, execution, and weighing activity.

Added to this, it aims to explain the scope of community nutritional assessment and its definition, and demonstrate data collection, consolidation, and analysis methodologies such as family profile, anthropometric measurements, calculation of age in months, and preparation of spot map.

Following the OPT Refresher is the conduct of actual OPT starting December 2022, and this nutrition activity is geared towards achieving the requirements of the National Guidelines and Timeline on Operation Timbang Plus.
