December 7, 2023 – In a display of creativity and festive spirit, the Cooperative Parol Making Contest 2023 illuminated Bacolod City with the brilliance of traditional Filipino parols.

Themed “Cooperative Parols Illuminating Lights of the Supercity,” the contest aimed to promote teamwork and celebrate the holiday spirit.

Led by the City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office, Cooperatives from various sectors embraced the challenge, bringing their own indigenous recycled materials and tools for parol making. From bamboo sticks to recycled paper, shells, and cellophane, each material contributed to the parols’ uniqueness. The judging criteria, including creativity, craftsmanship, use of materials, and overall presentation, ensured a fair evaluation.

The results, announced with much anticipation, Negros Occidental Government Employees MPC (NOCGEM) as the Champion, achieving an impressive 89.25 average score with an P80,000.00 prize.

Sunshine Service Cooperative claimed the 1st Runner Up spot with a score of 85.50 and a P60,000.00 prize.

Negrosanon Entrepreneur Marketing Cooperative (NEEMCOOP) at 84.75 as the 2nd Runner Up with P40,000.00 prize.

Bacolod City Government Employees MPC (BACGEM) secured the 3rd Runner Up position with a score of 84.00 with P20,000.00 prize.

Additionally, ten consolation prizes of P10,000.00 each added to the festive atmosphere.

The parols are on display at the Bacolod Plublic Plaza until the end of the month.
