July 31, 2024 – The Committee on Women, Children, Family, and Child Care called for its first committee meeting for the purpose of discussing the ordinance institutionalizing the comprehensive local juvenile intervention program and implementing the provisions of the juvenile justice and welfare act of 2006 today at the SP Session Hall, Bacolod City Government Center.
Led by the Office of Councilor Celia Flor, together with City Prosecutor Ma. Theresa B. Ditching, and representatives coming from various offices and sectors such as City Health Office Dr. Edwin Miraflor, City Legal Office Vanessa Encabo, DSSD Alma Braza and Jennysan Lazarito, and Virlanie Faith, Inc. James Opu-an.
During the meeting, Councilor Celia Flor emphasized that this will strengthen the juvenile intervention programs, particularly Children at Risk (CAR) such as street children, vulnerable to abuses, and deprived of privileges, and Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL).
Additionally, she also thanked the Bacolod City Justice Zone regarding the proposal as the ordinance was a product of their 5-day seminar.
Moreover, a number of suggestions were shared by the attendees on how to better implement the programs to ensure effectivity and efficiency.
