December 19, 2024 – The City Government of Bacolod launched its Solar Power System during a Ceremonial Switch-On held on December 18, 2024, at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) Lobby. Themed “Bacolod City: Leading the Way to Sustainable Energy Solutions,”.

The new solar power system, with a capacity of 400KW, is expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 48%, bringing substantial savings while minimizing environmental impact.

Councilor Kalaw Puentevella, Chair of the SP Committee on Energy, delivered a message of support, while Mr. Frederick Tesfay, Project Head of the GIZ Urban Act Project, served as the keynote speaker, highlighting the global importance of renewable energy initiatives.

In his message, Mayor Albee Benitez stated: “This project is a testament to our vision of a greener and more sustainable Bacolod. By harnessing solar energy, we not only reduce costs but also lead by example in protecting our environment for future generations.”

The ceremonial switch-on, led by Mayor Benitez alongside city officials and partners, marks a significant step forward in Bacolod’s renewable energy journey.
