Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya announced accelerated preparations for the festival, focusing on infrastructure improvements and community engagement.
During a press conference held Monday, July 7, Mayor Gasataya disclosed that he has formally requested the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fast-track the ongoing drainage improvement project at the plaza after past events saw kiosks submerged.
“We’ve requested the DPWH to expedite the construction of a new drainage system to prevent future problems,” the mayor said. “We want to ensure that the plaza will be fully functional and ready for upcoming activities during MassKara,” he added.
While the final venue for the festival’s major events is still being finalized, Mayor G, as he is fondly called now, confirmed that the Bacolod Public Plaza will host more activities and programs. This is part of the city’s effort to bring the plaza back to life.
“Our goal is a focused, vibrant celebration from day one,” the mayor stressed, noting the schedule balances tradition with practicality.
He also said that the MassKara Festival 2025 will officially open on October 1, setting the tone for a well-planned celebration.
“We will begin the festivities on October 1, but we plan to streamline the schedule to avoid an overly extended celebration. The goal is to create a meaningful and festive experience from day one,” he added.
A fresh organizing committee—replacing the previous group—will helm preparations, with details to be announced within the week. The move signals a shift toward innovative programming, though the mayor reassured stakeholders that the festival’s core identity remains intact.
“We envision a MassKara that will have greater participation from our people, especially the Bacolodnons who come home during this celebration,” Mayor Gasataya said.
Preparations for MassKara Festival 2025 have been underway since May, with planning teams working behind the scenes to craft exciting programs for the October celebration.
