The Commission on Population and Development (CPD) Region VI will host the 2024 Population and Development (PopDev) Awards on March 11, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center, Third Level – SM City Bacolod. This event will recognize the outstanding performance of 23 Local Government Units (LGUs) in Western Visayas, including Negros Occidental and Bacolod City in the Negros Island Region (NIR), in localizing the Philippine Population and Development Plan of Action (PPD-POA) 2023-2028.

The awards will also honor the valuable contributions of partner agencies, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and development partners in advancing population and development initiatives across the region.

In addition, eight ( LGUs will be elevated as Hall of Fame awardees during the occasion as consistent winners in the past three (3) years (2022-2024). These are: (1) Province of Capiz; (2) Bacolod City; (3) Sagay City, Negros Occidental; (4) Cadiz City, Negros Occidental; (5) Talisay City, Negros Occidental; (6) Malay, Aklan; (7) Maayon, Capiz; and, ( Pontevedra, Capiz.

The awarding ceremony will be graced by the presence and messages of various esteemed guests. Invited to render their messages of support, encouragement, and inspiration among the participants to the 2024 PopDev Awards are: (1) the Executive Director V of the Commission on Population and Development, Usec. Lisa Grace S. Bersales; (2) the Honorable Governor of the Province of Negros Occidental, Hon, Eugenio Jose V. Lacson; and, (3) the Honorable Mayor of the City of Bacolod, Hon. Alfredo Abelardo B. Benitez as Keynote Speaker.

A total of 200 participants are expected to grace the 2024 PopDev Awards in Bacolod City. The occasion, deemed to be one of the last few regional gatherings between the LGUs of Panay and Negros Islands awaiting full operationalization of the Negros Island Region, is set to mainstream PopDev and highlight people as the center and heart of local development in Western Visayas.
