July 23, 2024- The Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), in partnership with Urban Act Ph, recently conducted a comprehensive training and workshop at the Lfisher Hotel to prepare for the Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) of Bacolod City. The initiative is a proactive response to the significant climate challenges, such as El Niño, that the city has faced in the first half of 2024.
The seminar began with a welcome message from DRRMO Head Dr. Anna Maria Pornan, followed by an introduction to Urban Act. Ms. Lourdes Tibig of the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), provided an overview of climate change and the rationale for strategic planning through a recorded video presentation. Ms. Micella Garduce of ICSC then discussed the importance of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) in climate change. An open discussion between the speakers and participants fostered a deeper understanding of these critical issues.
Moreover, Mr. Juan Miguel Torres of ICSC led the workshop proper, presenting a broad picture of climate change impacts on the city and province. Following his presentation, participants engaged in group discussions, sharing their insights and answers with everyone during a plenary session. Mr. Vince Ullero of Clean Air Asia then discussed the co-benefits of sustainable transport in climate action. Lastly, BCDRRM outlined the city’s Climate Change and DRRM priorities and actions.
The seminar-workshop will continue tomorrow until July 25, 2024. With continued dedication to climate action and disaster preparedness, Bacolod City is poised to effectively tackle the challenges ahead and ensure the well-being of its residents.
The event was attended by Councilor Pao Sy, Punong Barangays of Bacolod City, BCDRRM Council Members, and other guests.
