December 4, 2023- Bacolod City officially launched its Universal Health Care (UHC) City Wide Health System, marking a significant milestone through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing at the Bacolod City Government Center Lobby.
Mayor Albee Benitez joined forces with the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development, represented by Dr. Mary Pauline Gestosani, Chief of Regulations, Licensing, and Enforcement Division, along with Philippine Health Insurance Corporation Regional Office IV, represented by Mr. Edgar Yocariza, Officer-in-Charge.
Universal Health Care, a transformative initiative, ensures that optimal health services reach every citizen, leaving no patient alone in their healthcare journey. The primary focus lies in strengthening primary care and community health, aiming to provide equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare for all.
The occasion featured insightful addresses, including a warm welcome from Dr. Ma. Carmela Gensoli, an introduction to Universal Health Care by Dr. Ava Joy Infante, and representation of the Department of Health by Dr. Mary Pauline Gestosani. Edgar Yocariza, PhilHealth’s Officer-in-Charge, delivered a message, emphasizing the importance of the collaborative endeavor.
Mayor Albee Benitez emphasized the transformative impact of the program on the community. In his statement, he stated, “This definitely brings a much faster and easier experience, and I can assure you that our community will truly feel the impact of the program we are bringing to them.”
Graced by the presence of Dr. Eric Saratan, Department of Health (DOH), representatives from PhilHealth, HSIMEC HEAD Mary Joy Castroverde, DMO III Jomarie Tongua, DMO V, POOHO Negros Occ. Dr. Ma. Maila Bernabe, DILG Bacolod City Joy Meredith Madayag and City Councilors Celia Flor, Pao Sy, Kalaw Puentevella, Em Ang, Jason Villarosa, Al Espino, Thaddy Sayson, and Simple Distrito. Councilor Danna Barzo, the SK Federation President, also participated in the momentous occasion.
The event concluded with a symbolic pledge of commitment, as Mayor Albee Benitez, City Councilors, CHO, DOH, and PhilHealth representatives signed the commitment board.
