
February 13, 2025 – Bacolod City celebrated World Radio Day 2025 with the theme, “Radio and Climate Change”, at the Little Theater of the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos (UNO-R). The event featured a series of insightful discussions on the significant role of radio in various sectors.
The program began with a warm welcome from Bacolod City Councilor Kalaw Puentevella, followed by Public Information Officer Carmela Arcolas-Gamboa and a message from UNO-R Communications Program Head, Dr. Jade Snow Dionzon.
Present during the activity were students from UNO-R, LCC, USLS, and Mansilingan Agro-Industrial High School (MAIHS) who actively participated in the discussion.
Three esteemed speakers shared their expertise, including Radyoman Dr. Jeony Bigay of RMN DYHB Bacolod presented on “The Vital Role of Radio During Disasters,” emphasizing how radio serves as a lifeline in crisis situations. PIA R6 Engr. Bernard Susbilla delivered an insightful talk on “The Role of Radio in Developmental Communication,” focusing on how radio is instrumental in promoting social and economic progress. Mr. Serafin Plotria of iFM Bacolod shared his perspective on “The Role of Radio in Nation Building: A Regional Perspective,” stressing the importance of regional radio in strengthening national unity.
The talks provided the audience with a wealth of knowledge, demonstrating how radio plays a vital role in disaster response, development, and nation-building.
To cap off the celebrations, the Kalantipan sa Kahanginan Broadcasting Excellence Awards 2025 will take place later this evening, recognizing outstanding contributions in broadcasting as part of the World Radio Day festivities.
