July 31, 2023 – SM City Bacolod played host to an impactful Emergency Preparedness Forum, geared towards bolstering disaster readiness among senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs). The event, held in partnership with the PWD and Senior Citizen Sector of Bacolod City, aimed to empower these vulnerable communities with essential survival skills and knowledge.
Graced by Councilor Celia Flor, SP Committee Chairperson on Senior Citizens, delivered an inspirational message to a receptive audience, this forum featured esteemed resource speakers; Ferdz Rubin, Dr. Mahar Lagmay, Dr. Raymond Patrick Maximo, and Dr. Ted Esguerra, all experts in disaster management and natural hazards, who offered valuable insights into coping with earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, and other emergencies.
Through engaging panel discussions, participants gained comprehensive knowledge about disaster preparedness.
Moreover, each attendee received an SM Emergency Pack, containing essential survival tools, and had the opportunity for a hands-on experience with earthquake and flood simulators.
By fostering a culture of preparedness, this initiative, launched by SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, aligns with the celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month.
