January 04, 2023 – The Sangguniang Palungsod approved on third and final reading the proposed ordinance amending sections 3, 4, 10, and repealing Section 5 of City Ordinance No. 08-05-723, Series of 2015 or known as “The Honor Student Incentives Ordinance of Bacolod City”.

Authored by Councilor Simplicia Distrito, Al Victor Espino, and Celia Matea Flor, this ordinance mandates to grant awards and incentives to the graduating honor students of all public and private elementary and secondary schools in Bacolod City.

Whereas section 3, stated as awards shall be amended, that at the end of the school year learners of grade 6, 10, and 12 distinguished as with highest honors, with high honors, and with honors shall be given a mayor’s academic excellence medal and certificate.

Section 4 on cash incentives, that the city may grant cash incentives amount to be given and shall be determined by the Local School Board, City Budget Officer, and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager, as subject to the availability of funds.

And Section 10 amended as the City of Bacolod Outstanding Student Leader Award which will be identified by the respective Awards Committee of the schools as Leadership Awardees in accordance with DepEd Order No. 36, series of 2016, shall be given a medal by the city government as special awards for their exemplary skills.
