Strong leadership in action. 💪 Mayor Greg Gasataya is taking action for the immediate improvements to Bacolod’s iconic Public Plaza to prepare for upcoming city events, including the much-anticipated return of the MassKara Festival street dancing competition.

During an inspection on July 3, Gasataya ordered immediate fixes such as:

✅Trimming overgrown trees

✅Taking down old, damaged Christmas lights

✅Repairing broken lampposts for better nighttime lighting

✅Cleaning and fixing the plaza’s comfort rooms

Longer-term plans include repainting structures, clearing clutter, and restoring the water fountain in partnership with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA). The mayor also hinted at adding security guards to ensure safety in the area.

“There are things we can do right away without spending much, but there are also areas that require more permanent changes” Gasataya said, emphasizing the urgency of the upgrades.

City engineers, legal officers, and other key officials joined the inspection to assess the needed repairs. With the MassKara Festival just months away, the improvements aim to restore the plaza as a vibrant centerpiece of Bacolod’s cultural celebrations.
