
March 10, 2025- The Department of Agriculture – Negros Island Region (DA-NIR) and the Bacolod City Government met today to discuss updates on key agricultural initiatives aimed at supporting local farmers and ensuring food security.
City Agriculture Head Maricar Quiro provided updates on the Bacolod Farmers Market, which is held every Friday at the BCGC Atrium. She also shared developments regarding the upcoming Agri-Digital Platform, a project designed to modernize agricultural transactions and improve market access for farmers.
National Food Authority (NFA) Manager Benilda Fidel reported on the distribution of NFA rice, ensuring that staple grains remain accessible to consumers. Meanwhile, DA-NIR OIC-Regional Executive Director Jose Albert A. Barrogo shared progress on several major projects, including, the proposed Triple-A Slaughterhouse in Granada, which aims to enhance meat processing standards and the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the FTI (Food Terminal Incorporated) and the Bacolod LGU to facilitate NFA rice distribution.
The meeting was attended by Councilor Thaddy Sayson, City Agriculture OIC Maricar Quiro, CCLDO Head Brenda Burdeos, DA-NIR OIC-Regional Executive Director Jose Albert A. Barrogo, and Assistant City Veterinarian Dr. John Michael Cabuguason.
These initiatives reflect the continued collaboration between DA-NIR and the Bacolod LGU in advancing agricultural development and food security for the region.
