Bacolod City joins the nation in honoring Dr. José Rizal through a meaningful and inspiring Rizal Day program, with the theme “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Buhay at Aral Aming Nilalandas.” The event underscores Rizal’s enduring relevance in the nation’s journey toward progress, unity, and transformation.

The commemoration, held at Rizal Elementary School, highlighted the Filipino spirit through a series of solemn and patriotic activities. The Philippine flag was presented with dignity, symbolizing national pride and unity.

The ceremony opened with a prayer, followed by the raising of the Philippine flag, accompanied by the singing of the Lupang Hinirang. The attendees reaffirmed their commitment to the ideals of the Philippines through the oaths to the flag and the vision of a Bagong Pilipinas.

Special performances included the Awit ng Bagong Pilipinas and the Bacolodnon Hym, rendered by the DepEd Teachers’ Chorale, reflecting Bacolod City’s pride and cultural heritage.

The program also featured a heartwarming dramatization titled “Ina sa Anak: Pagmamahal na Walang Kapantay,” directed by Julius P. Esparas, written by Kitehie G. Totisano, and performed by Rizal Elementary School students.

The second part of the program centered on honoring Dr. Rizal through a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at his monument. Councilors Thaddy Sayson, Em Ang, Atty Renecito Novero led the tribute together with BCPO Head Col. Joeresty. Coronica, Barangay 34 Barangay Captain, Teodoro Heaton Yulo, Bacolod POSO Head Gen. Primitivo Tabujara, Jr., DepEd officials, civic organizations, and various government agencies.

Adding to the solemnity of the event was a 21-gun salute by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), symbolizing the city’s highest respect for the life and legacy of Dr. Rizal. The salute underscored Rizal’s heroism and enduring significance in the nation’s history.

The event concluded with a stirring rendition of “O Bayan Ko, Bayang Pinapangarap” by renowned composer Ryan Cayabyab, performed by the Rizal Elementary School faculty. The performance left the audience inspired and resolute in upholding Rizal’s legacy of patriotism, courage, and service to the nation.

The Bacolod City Government, in partnership with the Department of Education and local organizations, extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants for making this Rizal Day celebration a meaningful reminder of our shared history and aspirations as a people.
