April 26, 2024 – True to their commitment and duty in managing communication and information, the Bacolod Public Information Office showed its support in the event, “Breaking Free from Social Media Hate”, organized by the advocacy, Peacebook. The event occurred at the Domingo Lacson National High School Gymnasium.
Together with Peacebook’s project proponent Leah Isabelle Serran, two speakers shared their knowledge and insights with regard to the mentioned topic, namely, Brgy. 30 Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson Khristian Rich Fong, who discussed how to deal responsibly with social media hate speech and second speaker, John Alfred Lucot, who shared on how to keep the internet a safe and fun place for young teens, the state of social media in the country, community building on social media, the risks for young teens on social media, the impact of hate speech/cyberbullying, and how to keep online relationships healthy.
The advocacy’s primary aim is to combat social media hate speech that is prevalent among social media users, especially, the youth. This specific event was held with the purpose of nurturing and educating young minds of the future generation.
