September 10, 2024 – In line with Mayor Albee Benitez’s vision of prioritizing food security among Bacolodnons, the City Agriculture, together with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Revitalized – Pulis sa Barangay (R-PSB Team Banago), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), launched the Project HAPAG (Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay sa Barangay) and Red Tilapia Raising today in Brgy. Banago’s Multipurpose Hall, Bacolod City.
Project HAPAG is a DILG-led nationwide initiative with the aim to plant vegetables and fruits in barangays to achieve sustainable agriculture such as household and community gardening.
During the launch, the City Agriculture provided seedlings consisting of Malunggay, Eggplant, and Papaya, among many others to help address malnutrition and a gardening equipment including trowel, hoe, seedling trays, and fertilizer for the community to use in their community garden.
Additionally, Red Tilapia fingerlings were also provided by the Department of Agriculture.
Finally, it was made clear that continuous monitoring of the garden and pond will be done by the city to ensure the success of this sustainable initiative.
