The Bacolod City government, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), conducted disaster preparedness training for fisherfolk, their families, and barangay personnel.
Upon the directive of Mayor Greg Gasataya, the training focused on essential lifesaving skills, including basic life support and first aid, to better equip residents during emergencies.
CDRRMO head Dr. Ma. Laarni Pornan said the program aims to strengthen the capacity of households and communities to respond effectively to emergencies and natural disasters.
She encouraged participants to continue practicing their skills and volunteer when possible. “We look forward to our trainees applying what they have learned during emergencies to help save lives,” she said.
Participating barangays included Tangub, Singcang, Punta Taytay, Banago, Sum-ag, and Pahanocoy. The final session was held on Thursday, April 30, at the Liga ng mga Barangay Hall with barangays 1, 2, 3, 10, 14, and 16. This initiative highlights the city’s commitment to preparing Bacolod residents for emergencies. (BACOLOD CITY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE)
