Newly
installed PNP Regional Police Office 6 Director, Chief Superintendent
Doroteo Reyes II paid his first courtesy call to Negros Occidental
Governor Joseph Marañon, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, and
officials from other local government units in the province, during the
joint meeting of the Peace and Order Councils of Negros Occidental and the
City of Bacolod, with the former hosting the affair.
Reyes said his courtesy call was not only a
matter of tradition and protocol, but more importantly to affirm the
submission of police authority to the supremacy of civilian authority.
He added that as the most senior law enforcement
officer in this region, his program is to dedicate to execute the mandate
of the Philippine National Police in maintaining peace and order, and
deliver better public safety services pursuant to the desire of President
Arroyo to establish a strong republic. It is also in consonance with the
PNP leadership guidelines, which sets them to arrest criminality,
eliminate the reason for insurgency, and defeat terrorism.
For his part, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that
the joint meeting was a meaningful one stressing that “we cannot just
see having our peace and order council by ourselves. We are not an island.
We live with the rest of Negros Occidental.”
“We act together, we live together, and
naturally we are expected to coordinate with each other,” he added.
The Mayor also said that the City Peace and Order
Council continues to be one of the major priorities of his administration,
adding that the biggest share from the PAGCOR Funds goes to the Council.
Governor Joseph Marañon appealed to both
Councils, the local government units, and the police and military
authorities, to work together as a people so that every house, barangay,
town and city will live in “cultured peace, unity and renewal.”
He said, “we are a wounded people…wounded by
political conflicts and tribal wars, wounded by unjust socio-economic
division, wounded by corruption and moral degeneration.” (CMO-PIO/jmi) |
