MCMT Conducts Inspection on Weighing Scales
at the Bacolod Central Market

     The Market Coordinating and Monitoring Taskforce conducted an on the spot inspection on the weighing scales of the market vendors of the Central Market. This was after Executive of the City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia instructed Ernesto Pineda, Chief Coordinator of the MCMT upon learning about the various complaints of consumers.
     There were at least 63 weighing scales that were inspected and some found to have a differential of 200 grams - 1/2 kilograms from the original weight of the goods sold. Pineda said that the inspection that was conducted has just began and further operations are to commerce this week and the following weeks to come to be able to address the clamor of the public with the unfair market practice of the said vendors.
     (RA 7394) Article 62 Sealing and testing of weights and measure - all instruments for determining weights and measures in all consumer related transactions shall be tested, calibrated and sealed every six (6). The said Republic Act also states that there are penalties corresponding violations committed.
     Furthermore, Mayor Bing calls on the people at the respective markets to do away with these fraudulent practices to avoid penalties and instead engage on fair trade. (CMO-PIO/osb)
