Women Walk to Celebrate Women's Month 2005

     Over 800 women from various sectors in Bacolod walked from the women's Center at Lacson Street to the Fountain of Justice fronting City Hall in celebration of Women Month 2005 today. The theme for this year's celebration is: '"kasarang sang Kababaihan, Kilalahon kag Hugpungon para sa Mabakod nga Nasyon".
     Physicians, lawyers, cause-oriented groups, the Girl's Scouts of Bacolod, youth, the elderly, policewomen, NGO's, students, government and private sector employees, women of all occupants and ages walked in the heat of the sun, at 4: PM to join other women of the nation in celebration. A program was held at the Fountain of Justice, where speaker led by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, Human Resource Head Anecita Diamante and former Administrator Atty. Andrea Si, took turns in extolling the rights of women and commending their contributions to society.
     Mayor Evelio Leonardia spoke on the administration's pledge to support projects on the protection of women and their rights. He is however wondering why Women's Month have to coincide with Fire Prevention Month. What's with the fire and women anyway, the Mayor jested.
     Other activities for the celebration are the 'Arte Babaye", and all-women artists' exhibition at the Robinson's and the BC-GAD Council Induction (CMO-PIO)
