The
whole country is celebrating the 12th National Children’s Month this
October, in recognition of the Filipino child as the most valuable asset
of the nation.
This year’s observance focuses on the role of a “nurturing family”
in producing a Bright Child, thus the theme “BRIGHT CHILD: Bunga ng
Mapagkalingang Pamilya”.
The Department of Interior and Local Government
is spearheading the event, in coordination with the Council for the
Welfare of Children (CWC) and other government and non-government
organizations.
Local government units, including Bacolod City,
are enjoined to actively participate in the celebration with various
activities lined up that will uphold and promote children’s rights.
These include the hanging of streamers carrying this year’s theme,
conduct of seminars/workshops/fora, and holding of child-friendly
activities, among others.
The Department of Social Services and
Development, headed by Ms. Linda Ablanque, has organized child-friendly
activities, such as the Tell and Draw, and Singing contests. These will be
participated by some 119 day care centers all over Bacolod City.
A Children’s Congress is also slated to be held
during the month-long celebration.*(CMO-PIO/jmi)
