Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia releases more than five
and a half million pesos to cover three months of back ECOLA for Bacolod
City public school teachers. The funds are part of the net income of the
Local School Board as of December 31, 2004 in the amount of P6,463,286.27
as certified by the OIC-City Accountant.
In the meeting of the Local School Board held May
4, 2005 at the Bacolod City Mayor's conference room, the mayor was
apprised of the distribution of the funds by Dr. Milagros S. Gonzales,
Schools Division Superintendent. P5,523,000.00 would pay for the back
ECOAL of some 2,630 teachers for the months of April, May and June
2001. The balance of P94,286.27 will go to operational expenses such as
office equipment, supplies and materials, and new projects, like the
administration of the St.Dominic Savio Learning Center at the Bacolod
Boys' Home, and assistance to the province for the Palarong Pambansa
athletes.
Cognizant of the invaluable service that school
teachers render to our society, Mayor Leonardia has been consistently
sourcing out funds for the teacher's ECOLA, much of which has remained
unpaid in the last several years. It is noteworthy that in its first ten
months, the Leonardia administration, in spite of financial pressures, has
already paid seven months worth of back ECOLA, covering 2001 and 2002, to
the public school teachers. Leonardia is committed to giving back to the
teachers the compensation they have earned.
Also present at the meeting were Jose Mingay,
Elizabeth Malaga and Re-an Reboton of DepEd, PTA Federation president Rudy
Yanson, OIC City Accountant Ed Ravena, City Councilors Greg Gasataya and
Marx Louie dela Rosa, and Eng'r Aladino Agbones of the City Engineers
Office. (CMO-PIO/efj)
