The Bacolod City Government, through the City Engineer’s Office, has
completed more than P71.4 million worth of various infrastructure
projects from the period covering January until end of June this year,
Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced today.
Leonardia has directed the CEO to fast track the city’s
extensive program of infrastructure projects, on top of which is the
Bacolod Eye Center, to ensure the fast delivery of basic services to the
people.
The mayor said that the infrastructure projects will
not only generate employment but will also bring economic benefits to
the city and to the people. Some projects, such as dredging and clearing
of waterways, are meant to alleviate flooding in flood-prone areas at
the onset of rainy season, he added.
Leoanardia said that the infrastructure projects set by
the city government this year are another solid indication that Bacolod
is fast moving forward and surging ahead economic wise.
Majority of the infrastructure projects undertaken by
the city government included road widening and concreting programs,
renovation of public school buildings and other government-owned
buildings, repair of major bridges, installation of water pumps,
installation of street lights, dredging and clearing of waterways and
construction of drainage systems.
To date, the city government has more than P157.56
million worth of ongoing infrastructure projects that are undertaken by
the CEO and P187.48 million worth of projects that are undertaken by
private contractors.
Most notable of these infrastructure projects are the
ongoing development of the Granada-Vista Alegre relocation site I and
II, the construction of the Alijis-Taculing road and bridge, and the
reconstruction of the Banago Bridge I.
Leonardia earlier said that these infrastructure
projects will bring the city proper closer to the people, especially to
those who reside at the relocation site, and will promote economic
growth in the area.
The city government has also allocated a budget for the
construction of a road and a bridge along Gatuslao Extension that will
connect the area to the back of Robinson’s Place. This project is aimed
at improving the traffic situation along the downtown area.
